Employers breakfast aboard HMS PORTLAND
Maritime Reservists from HMS PRESIDENT, HMS WILDFIRE and RMR London accompanied by their bosses from 10 organisations, attended a special breakfast reception aboard HMS PORTLAND, hosted by SaBRE. HMS PORTLAND, one of the Navy’s Type 23 frigates, was moored alongside HMS BELFAST on the Thames as part of her official visit to London.
After bacon sandwiches and mugs of coffee, the employers heard Commander Mike Knott, Commanding Officer of HMS PORTLAND give a brief on the frigate’s capabilities and a fascinating insight into the past 12 months’ of HMS PORTLAND’s duties. Lt Col Steve Crouden, Commanding Officer of RMR London described the Maritime Reserve’s role and gave details of current deployments.
Following a tour of the Ship with members of the crew, 6 organisations were presented with SaBRE Certificates of Support by Commodore Tim Hennessey, Naval Regional Commander - Eastern England: BAE Systems, Coca Cola Enterprises, The Highways Agency, The Nichols Group, Société Générale and Virgin Trains.
