Frozen Employers!
Ten employers experienced a ‘chilling adventure’ at the end of March when they spent two days with Royal Marines Reservists during their winter training in Norway. The employers watched the Reservists on training exercises, had plenty of time to chat with them and even had a go at driving over-snow vehicles. They also spent one night in a tent, out on the arctic tundra with hard packed snow as a floor!
It was an excellent opportunity to observe the skills being developed in the Reservists and to recognise that many of these skills were readily transferable to the civilian workplace at no cost to the employer. And after speaking to two Reservists, Graham Struthers, an employer and FSB Regional Chairman said
I would employ either of those young men without question. I recognise the impressive range of skills they would bring to my business”.
Forthcoming Events in Scotland
Royal Gun Salute On Saturday 12 June 2010, 105 Regt RA will fire a Royal Gun Salute at Stirling Castle to mark the Official Birthday of Her Majesty The Queen. We will host a number of employers at a reception and lunch around this event. This gives them the opportunity to see Reservists performing a ceremonial function, quite different from their normal work, and to network with other employers.
Borders Area Reception On Tuesday 29 June 2010 Lowland RFCA will entertain employers in the Borders area at a Reception in Thirlestane Castle, by kind permission of Capt The Hon Gerald Maitland-Carew, Lord-Lieutenant of Roxburgh, Ettrick and Lauderdale. This promises to be an enjoyable evening in spectacular surroundings.
Edinburgh Military Tattoo Once again both Highland and Lowland RFCAs will join to take a party of employers to the Edinburgh Military Tattoo on Wednesday 18 August 2010. Visits in the past two years have coincided with heavy rain, but we hope this year will see an improvement. In any case, the Tattoo is a wonderfully atmospheric event – whatever the weather.
If you’d like to be considered for an invitation to any of these events, please contact one of the RSCDs.
Exercise Executive Stretch
Unfortunately, because of the need to focus the Volunteer Reserve Forces’ training time and financial resources on operational priorities, we won’t be running Exercise Executive Stretch in 2010. We hope to run it again next year.
