Recent SaBRE Certificate Presentations

The beginning of each year sees the Lord Lieutenants’ Presentation Evenings in each of the four counties within the North of England. These occasions provide splendid opportunities to present SaBRE certificates to newly recognised supportive employers. Recent recipients at these events include Cleveland Police, HMP Kirklevington Grange and BP CATS Terminal.

A SaBRE Dinner Night was held in the Great Hall at Redworth Hall Hotel. Senior business people from the area together with a variety of military guests attended the dinner, on this occasion, Colonel John Anderson, Chairman of the North of England RFCA presented certificates to Ebac Ltd, RPL Group Ltd and Sedgefield Racecourse.

No Exercise Executive Stretch in the region this year

For the first time in at least twenty years, no Exercise Executive Stretch will be held in the region this year. The highly popular exercise has been put on hold for the foreseeable future, and although a reduced version of the exercise was considered, this too has unfortunately had to fall by the wayside.

Employers see the true worth of Reservist training

On 24th March SaBRE, in conjunction with 72 Engineer Regiment (V), ran an Employer Briefing Day and Jobs Fair in Gateshead for local businesses and the public in general. A number of supportive employers from the region had stands at the fair that was attended by over 250 people. The employers also received a short presentation on the unit and employment of Reservists, plus an interesting talk by a young female officer recently returned from serving in Afghanistan. Everyone agreed the day was a great success and it should be repeated in the not too distant future.

Also in March, an employer from the region joined others from around the country on a memorable visit to the Royal Marines Reserve winter warfare Exercise “Hairspring” in Norway. This was not only a tremendous personal experience but also gave an excellent insight to the type, level and intensity of training received by members of the Reserve Forces.
