There are now less than three weeks to go before this year's Armed Forces Day celebrations get underway. An annual event designed to honour our Service personnel, past, present and future; the theme for Armed Forces Day is 'Show Your Support'.
The day aims to raise awareness of and support for the Armed Forces community, which includes serving personnel and their families, veterans and the Cadet Forces, and highlight the outstanding contribution they make to this country.
The national event takes place on Saturday 26 June and will be hosted by Cardiff City Council. This will be complemented by over 170 community-led events in towns and cities across the UK on or around 26 June. For the full event listing and to see how you can get involved in your local event visit www.armedforcesday.org.uk.
Public support for Armed Forces Day is growing every day with over 260,000 fans on the dedicated Facebook page and almost 1300 followers on Twitter. There are lots of messages of support posted every day.
Monday 21 June is the ‘Fly the Flag’ initiative where local authorities across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland will be provided with an Armed Forces Day flag to fly in honour of the event. Commanding Officers and Heads of Establishments are encouraged to support these events where they can.
Uniform to Work Day
As part of the Armed Forces Day activities, Reservists (including Volunteer Reserve Training personnel) of all three Services and cadets are encouraged to wear their Service uniform at work or school on Friday 25 June. In parallel with this, veterans are also encouraged to wear their HM Armed Forces Veterans Badge on the same day.
