Pre-deployment training - What really happens?

TA Reservist mobilised with 4 Mercian

Hitting the ground running

If you have a Reservist on your payroll you may already be familiar with the kind of training they undertake during evenings and weekends and on their two-week annual camp. As well as exercises to develop their physical fitness, this also includes training to develop their organisational, leadership and decision making skills, all of which help them work as a team and under pressure.

Pre-deployment training is even more intense. It not only reinforces and refines the skills they’ve acquired so far, but also ensures they’re fully trained in the use of any specific vehicles, technology or weapons systems they’ll be using on tour.

A vital contribution

Here you’ll find the stories of three Reservists. Although they were mobilised in different situations, their experience of pre-deployment training was the same – it quite simply made all the difference.
