SaBRE - We're all stronger with Reservists

Reservists wear uniform to work

Reservists from the Army, Navy and Air Force will be turning up for work today in military clothing as part of 'Uniform to Work Day'.

On the eve of the first ever Armed Forces Day, Reservists will be swapping their civilian clothes for military kit, to demonstrate to colleagues that members of the reserves not only live and work 'among us' but are a vital part of the military community.

On 'Uniform to Work Day', we are encouraging those part-time soldiers, sailors and airmen who wish to be involved, to arrange with their employer to go to work at their civilian jobs in military uniform. This will remind the public that Reservists are 'among us' in society in virtually every walk of life.

Perhaps more importantly we want to encourage public affirmation, recognition and understanding of the remarkable work these people undertake as volunteers. From beauticians to bus drivers at Alton Towers, artists to auctioneers and supermarket shelf-stackers to AWE scientists; people from all walks of life and occupations have put time aside to train and serve in Iraq and Afghanistan alongside their regular counterparts.  They are doing it right now on operations and we see 'Uniform to Work Day' as a way of representing them, our family and friends, in the workplace today."

The day is part of a series of events linked to Armed Forces Day which takes place on 27 June and is being commemorated all over the country with the main event happening in Chatham.
