Recent proposals to cut training within the Territorial Army in order to save £20million resulted in a lot of media coverage.
You will no doubt be aware of the series of savings measures that have been taken by the Ministry of Defence in order to remain within budget this financial year. The Army was required to contribute £20million, set against TA activity.
The Secretary of State reluctantly accepted the decision to remove this funding in order to meet the Defence priority of resourcing operations in Afghanistan.
However, following intervention from the Prime Minister, £20million was located within the Treasury budget and reallocated to the Army, therefore allowing TA training to be restored.
