Explaining this course to your employer
All Reservists must take part in regular training to reach required standards in a number of subjects known as MATTS. These are tested annually and focus on maintaining a TA soldier’s military skills to a high standard so they always remain operationally effective.
Annual Training is compulsory for all TA soldiers, regardless of rank. It can be undertaken during the evening, at weekends or at ‘Annual Camp’. The amount of training each Reservist requires varies according to their experience and skills but is typically around 20 days per year.
What does the training involve?
- Weapons training
- Fitness
- Battlefield casualty drills
- Navigation
- Reacting calmly in highly pressurised situations such as chemical, biological or nuclear attack
- Core values such as commitment, confidence, respect for others, loyalty
- Operational law
What would it cost?
According to research endorsed by the Chartered Management Institute, if your employer were to pay for training to deliver equivalent employee development it would cost them in the order of £1,000. This only relates to the skills that would be relevant to a civilian workplace - areas such as self-discipline and analytical thinking.
