Explaining this course to your employer
Territorial Army recruits undertake two key stages of training which are designed to provide them with the required skills and knowledge to prepare them for future service. All recruits go through the same initial training which is conducted at TA Regional Training Centres. Once recruits or ‘Soldiers Under Training’ (SUTs) have passed this training, they then go onto the second stage of training which varies depending on whether the recruit opts to join the infantry or a non-infantry area of the Army.
What does the training involve?
Infantry recruits:
- Weapons training
- Physical fitness
- Night exercises
- Teamwork
Non-infantry recruits:
- Scenario-based exercises
- Field exercises
- Fieldcraft
- Navigation
- Weapon handling
- Map reading
- Casualty drills
- Physical fitness
What would it cost?
According to research endorsed by the Chartered Management Institute, if your employer were to pay for training to deliver equivalent employee development it would cost them in the order of £650 for the non-infantry course and £800 for the infantry course (reflecting the longer training period). This only relates to the skills that would be relevant to a civilian workplace - areas such as problem solving and teamwork.
